An extraordinary album from 1972, Hemphill's much sought after debut is getting a reissue on Superior Viaduct in March and we couldn't be more excited. To call this a 'free jazz' album somewhat underplays its majesty, this is music that is at once funky yet both complex and demanding. Joined by a likeminded trio - Baikida Carroll on trumpet, Abdul Wadud on cello, and Phillip Wilson on drums - Dogon A.D. offers both an aural cleanse and charts a new exiting pathway of discovery.  An avant-garde classic, if truth be told.
