Dating from 1957, this rather lovely compilation pits together all three of Lateef's Savoy sessions, his first recordings as a leader. The material here is forward thinking, mysterious to a point, and utterly charming. Joined by likes of Louis Hayes, Curtis Fuller and the wonderful Hugh Lawson on piano, this is Lateef already starting to stretch his wings and look eastwards where much of his later music would draw influence from. Highly recommend this one.
